Pan con tomate is a Spanish classic that never fails

Transport your taste buds to the sunny streets of Spain with the iconic Pan con Tomate. This traditional Spanish dish celebrates the beauty of simplicity by combining fresh tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and crusty bread. With its vibrant flavours and delightful textures, this recipe is a perfect appetiser or snack that can be enjoyed any time of day. Optional toppings like creamy burrata take it to a whole new level of indulgence.

Simple but fresh ingredients make this a true delight

Tomatoes: At the heart of Pan con Tomate lies the star ingredient – ripe tomatoes. Opt for juicy, ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. Grating the tomatoes allows their natural juices to infuse the dish, creating a luscious base. The vibrant acidity and sweetness of the tomatoes bring a burst of freshness to every bite.

Garlic: A touch of garlic adds a subtle kick of flavour. Rubbing the crusty bread with garlic imparts its essence into the dish, enhancing the overall taste.

Olive oil: Extra Virgin Olive Oil for Lusciousness: Drizzling the Pan con Tomate with extra virgin olive oil not only adds a luxurious richness but also enhances the flavors. The smooth and fruity notes of the olive oil complement the freshness of the tomatoes, creating a harmonious combination. Use a high-quality olive oil for the best results.

Bread: Choose a rustic and crusty bread, such as a baguette or country loaf, as the base for your Pan con Tomate. Slice the bread and toast or grill it until golden brown, creating a delightful crunch. The crispy exterior of the bread provides a contrast to the juicy tomatoes, while the soft interior soaks up the tomato juices and olive oil.

Burrata: Combine two great food cultures – Spain and Italy! For an indulgent twist, top your Pan con Tomate with creamy burrata. The luscious and creamy texture of burrata pairs beautifully with the vibrant flavours of the tomatoes and the richness of the olive oil. Its mild and delicate taste adds a luxurious element to the dish, elevating it to a true culinary delight.
